City Holler -- American Folk and Bluegrass

Bringing Music from the Mountains to the Prairie

City Holler cultivates and extends the traditions of American Acoustic Roots music.  Just like the city of Chicago in which it is based, City Holler sits at the confluence of  many different streams of musical sensibility. City Holler delivers a distinctive and infectious blend of Bluegrass, Folk, Classic Country and String Band music, tinged with Swing, Irish, Blues, Rockabilly and other ingredients that spice up the rich gumbo of American music. Traditional instrumentation is combined with a contemporary sensibility and material is drawn from the whole gamut in between.

No matter what they're playing, City Holler  performs with a directness and honesty that is the hallmark of American Roots Music, whether as a  duo, trio, or 5 or 6-piece Orkestry.

Every Sunday, 4-7pm at the Edgewater Lounge--City Holler is subsumed by the ECONOSIZE SWING ORCHESTRA, an acoustic trio specializing in gypsy jazz. We like to think of it as Manouche a Trois. This is in fact very much a Family-Friendly Show (but not a kiddie performance). The Edgewater now has 100% LESS SMOKE. As long as the parents come along kids are welcome. There are great dinner options for simple and sophisticated palates, excellent beer selection for the grown-ups and room for kids to dance. A great opportunity to expose your children to live music and teach them proper bar etiquette.

Alternating Tuesdays, 9pm-midnight. City Holler does its TWANG THANG at the Edgewater Lounge, 5600 N. Ashland Ave. See the calendar below for precise dates. Y'all Come!
